Why share with a link?

Instead of copying, saving and sharing a document, you should link to our licensed online materials because

  • sharing a digital document is usually against the terms of use
  • the most recent version of the content is always available as it is updated
  • the usage statistics of the resources are kept up to date. Usage rates influence purchasing decisions.

It is not recommended to copy the link directly from the browser address bar, as the link usually does not work outside the Metropolia network. On this page you will find instructions on how to create a link that works.

Create a link that also works remotely

The easiest way is to share the link to MetCat Finna. It also works remotely.

Link to MetCat Finna

To get the link to MetCat Finna:

  • Search for the document
  • Open the document page
  • Copy the url address of the page (e.g. https://metropolia.finna.fi/Record/nelli15.1000000000281756).
  • Test the functionality of the link with another browser.

If you want to share links to multiple documents, you can use the MetCat Finna favourites list. You can create a new list or use an existing list. You can find your favourite lists in your account details.

  • Add a document to your favourites list using the pin icon ()
  • Make your favourites list public and copy the link.

You will find more detailed instructions on how to create and share your favourite lists on MetCat Finna.

Link to a document directly from the database

If the material cannot be found in MetCat Finna, make a link directly to the database where the book/article is located.

Direct links to databases usually do not work when you are not on campus. Make a remote proxy link.

Add proxy to the beginning of the link: https://ezproxy.metropolia.fi/login?url=

  • For example: https://ezproxy.metropolia.fi/login?url=https://www.statista.com/outlook/amo/media/books/worldwide
