E-books: VLeBooks

VLeBooks logo

A multidisciplinary collection of e-books, which were previously available on the Dawsonera platform.

Books can be browsed on the VleBooks platform. There are currently no links to VLeBook e-books in MetCat Finna.

Currently VLeBooks can only be accessed remotely outside the Metropolia network. If you try to access VLeBooks on campus computers or via VPN connection, you will see the following error message:

For Metropolia students and staff.

Restrictions

Only owned e-books are available for reading and downloading. Restrictions vary from title to title:

  • Most e-books have 100-400 credits (1 credit = 1 user/day) and once the credits have run out, the e-book may no longer be available.
  • Some books have restricted use (eg. e-books published by Pearson have 1-3 concurrent users)

With Metropolia user name and password.

Reading

You can read an e-book directly in a browser ("Read online").

Downloading

Many e-books (PDF or  EPUB) can be downloaded onto your computer or mobile device. Required reader: Adobe Digital Editions. Loan period is 1-5 days.

The possibility to download varies per title, not all books can be downloaded. These books can be read online.

Printing 

Printing and copying for personal use is permitted. Printing and copying varies from title to title, check what is allowed by clicking the book title in VLeBooks.

Download e-books

1. Install Adobe Digital Editions e-book reader
2. Authorize Adobe Digital Editions:

  • With Adobe ID
    • This will enable you to read e-books on multiple devices
    • Required with mobile apps
    • Create an Adobe ID. The email address you enter will be your Adobe ID.
  • On an computer you can also authorize the reader without an Adobe ID:
    • Choose: "I want to authorize my computer without an ID.”
